Everyone Can Code Event, Bristol
20th March 2018

January 30, 2018

Everyone Can Code

Everyone Can Code is a new programme designed to give everyone the power to learn, write and teach code with Swift. Apple created Everyone Can Code because they believe coding is an essential skill that everyone should have the opportunity to learn. Learning to code can teach students how to solve problems, work together in creative ways, and build amazing things that bring their ideas to life.

Swift is easy to learn and powerful, so your students can grow their skills to build their own apps and more. Free teaching and learning materials from Apple make it easy for you to bring coding with Swift to your school.

Swift Playgrounds

Swift Playgrounds is a revolutionary new app that makes learning Swift interactive and fun. Teachers with any level of coding experience can use Learn to Code 1 & 2 Teacher Guide and Learn to Code 3 Teacher Guide to help bring coding to their classroom. Coding is becoming an essential skill. Learning to code can unlock students’ creativity, develop problem-solving skills, and open career paths.

Delegates will receive access to a wealth of coding resources, from basic introduction guides to full lesson plans, to support your teachers and their coding lessons. Our hands in sessions will demonstrate how to get started and give you ideas to take back to the classroom.

Coding with Sphero

Creativity. It's at the very core of education and is widely seen as critical for success. Luckily, it is also something that can be developed through the cultivation of cognitive skills and independent exploration. Sphero Edu uses app-enabled robots to foster creativity through discovery and play, all while laying the foundation for computer science.

Everyone Can Code session

I’m very excited to deliver this Everyone Can Code session with Western Computer. Aimed at inspiring those that want to get the most from this exciting and relevant technology.

My session has been created to ensure Primary teachers can;

• Develop confidence and ideas for using iPads effectively to teach coding, and understand the recommendations of the National Curriculum.
• Explore activities for explaining and creating algorithms, with students in class.
• Develop an awareness of how a selection of apps can support teachers and students needs.
• Discover the latest features of these cool apps and learn how to program Sphero’s and Robots.
• Find and use resources to sustain the teaching and exploring of coding in class.

Darren Tobin

At the start of 2017 I joined Sphero to help build the foundations for a solid education platform, allowing students across EMEA not only to learn coding but to have fun whilst doing so. Prior to this I was Head of Apple at Apple’s then largest UK distribution partner where I spent 11 years building value added service around their Apple eco-System.

Sphero EDU coding challenge session

Get hands on with an interactive set of Lessons that develops problem solving skills, collaboration between students, computational thinking and knowledge of angles, shapes, space, speed, distance & time.  Students will really enjoy extending their mathematical knowledge while exploring sound, movement and light with the SPRK+ robot and the Sphero EDU App. And if you’re brave enough we’ll give you a deep dive into Lessons using the SPRK+ robot in water.
