Real stories of how Apple technology has been successfully deployed in schools.

Primary North Somerset

A primary school in North Somerset invested in 32 MacBooks with a 32 bay trolley. Having been successfully integrated into the school they are being used by all departments on a daily basis. Now, instead of students having to move from the classroom to the IT suite to use the latest technology, the suite comes to them in one simple, affordable, rolling solution.

"The all-in-one nature of the learning lab is key" says Neil, head teacher. "Combining the accessibility of the AirPort networking, the security of being able to lock the unit, the built-in charging points, and being able to instantly see if all the units have been returned is great."

The staff have found the Learning Lab to be a truly portable and flexible option. "The learning lab really is our mobile classroom. It allows us to take the technology into the classrooms and use it flexibly. The MacBooks can be used in several classrooms at once to ensure maximum usage of this valuable resource and the space available to us."

Worle Community School

Worle Community School chose the Apple platform to run a combination of Mac OS X and Windows operating systems, in their "Classroom For The Future". The school has their own personalised start-up page, made possible by installing BootPicker, which displays the option to  use Mac OS X or Windows XP. The dual boot configuration allows any student or teacher, to use any software necessary to assist their learning.

As all staff and students are familiar with each operating system, it fully empowers them to move forward their education and progression into higher and further education, as well as employment. Worle Community School has been an Apple Regional Training Centre since 2008, and the training opportunities this offers assists the school's Media Arts Specialist  status as well as actively infecting the local area with the benefits of the Apple platform.

Delivering courses in a multitude of  creative and artistic areas, they provide regular courses for staff, students, and local schools who would like to expand  their knowledge and experience in teaching and learning. Various courses are run regularly and always have a strong curriculum based educational bias, relevant across all Key Stages, at many levels of education. Reaching primary and secondary schools, as well as SEN centres and teachers in the local area is of key importance to the Worle RTC.

The i-City Learning Centre, Bristol

The i-CLC has used the Apple platform in their IT suites for a long time so when it came to looking at a mobile solution naturally they turned again to Apple. Having used both the iPod touch and iPad , alongside Parat's charging and syncing solutions, Andy Menzies comments on what drew them to the Apple handheld learning solutions.

"We chose the Apple devices for their robust and well-designed hardware and for the powerful multimedia software on the Apple platform. We have also found that Apple mobile devices provide a very intuitive and user-friendly experience, thereby increasing student engagementwith the learning.

It has been evident that mobile devices have played a major role in encouraging the personalisation of the learning experience of the pupils and has fostered and supported innovative teaching practice."
